Ad Summary

Tons of interesting things going on in the ad world! NESTLE is trying to cut down it's cost in advertising. With an economy rapidly falling and customers are becoming more conservative with there money rather than throwing it left and right, companies are having to get more creative. Nestle plans on giving their media work (social included in this) into the complete control of Group M. Group M has managed media for Kohls ($350 million) and Farmers Insurance ($150 million) and Nestle hopes that Group M can make them even more successful as well as conserve there money. The marketer managed a grand total of $750 million in the year of 2012. Nestle has stated that they are excited to work with Group M in 2014.

In other news Aereo (a company that uses antennas to get free channels for Americans) is getting attacked by Fox news. Fox is claiming that the business Aereo is a "theft" taking away channel signals that should be earning them dollars. Aereo on the other hand is claiming that Americans should have access to free air waves and they are simply providing a service to do so. Over 50 million Americans use antennas to get their television and Aereo is highly disappointed that they had to take this case to court. They will have to negotiate in order to give Fox news some compensation to "give away" their channel on the antenna network.

Persuaders Homework

In the Persuaders video I learned a lot about the advertising world. One of the most interesting parts for me personally was when the CEO of a company called out the artists in the advertising world. He said that most of them were just people who didn't make it into the movies or into their artistic field. He said that the ads would end up looking good but might not sell well due to the artistic integrity of some artists. This is rather insulting to an extent because if it looks good it should sell essentially. Maybe the concept needs to be adjusted or the message needs to be more clear but if something is of the highest quality of it's trade then it's more on the product to actually back the commericial.

The control aspect of the ad world kind of intimidates me. The fact that companies will spend millions of dollars in trying to come up with formulas to see what the public will like, how it will react, and what will get them to buy the products. Again, it is insulting that ad companies think that the core of the American is to buy, buy, buy and react without any thought.

Song and it's message was an overall good but just crowded and a bit too late. It's kind of sad to see a company get so close but fall short of what they wanted. An emotional attachement or loyality to a company is hard to build without time and a ton of money. The theory of "breaking through the clutter" is one that I will have to consider more often during the next few years of my life. How does one break through the clutter? Make something unique, dependable, but also presented the best.

G.O.S.P.E.L (project)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyYFxp7apl4

The gospel is one of the hardest things to talk about for any young Christian. It can be terrifying, awkward, and to be honest just uncomfortable. Yet God didn't call Christians to have comfortable lives, just like Jesus Christ didn't have a comfortable life here on Earth. Therefore we should be prepared to go out into the world and share our faith with relentless and reckless love.

Ray Comfort often talks about the 4 items doctor, patient, disease, and cure. If you came to a doctor and were sick, expecting to be healed, but told you were completely okay and went home and died, you would be furious! The doctor was supposed to do his job and do everything he can to help you, heal you, make you return to perfect health. Even worse if the doctor knows that you are sick, has the cure, and doesn't do a thing. We have to picture our world like this. Our world is full of sick people, patients, who have the disease SIN. The only way to cure this disease is with a cure. That cure is Jesus Christ.

Often people ask: how do we share our faith?

Love. God is love therefore show love to everyone. The Bible says "They will know us by our love..." Our actions will speak much louder than our words. The world should see us as different, something strange, yet something that is attractive. They should feel loved by our words, our aura, our actions.

Go out into the world and be the change you so desperately wish to see.

Website Review (homework)

The website www.withoutjesusisuck.com is quite an interesting portal. Most older Christians would be turned off by such a title. Still the company has been doing quite well with their bold statement in creating and selling t-shirts, wristbands, sweatshirts, hats, and shoes.

This company's website is center of all their sales, merchandise, and sharing the gospel. If this website was no good then they would not be succesful on any level. The organization of this page is supuerb. The message it is trying to relay goes perfectly with the URL. The visuals are very attractive with all the pictures of multi-racial people wearing their parphanila. It is extremely easy to navigate through and find everything that you are looking for.

Overall, this website meets the demand of the people with it's organizational skills, attractive visuals and easy to use system. They will continue to be successful in sales until God no longer wants them in business.

Summary of Chapter 6 & 5.11

Photography is and always will be a powerful part of media. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and "they" are exactly right. When people can see something in physical evidence it is a lot more convincing than a person telling them about it.
Any Photojournalist wants their pictures to have a sense of drama, as if to ask "what is going on here?" or action to gain the interest of the public. All photographers use long range, mid-range, and closeups to help relay the message of each photo. Also the rule of thirds is important to make photos look more believable.
Charts need to be accurate in news. Everything should be accurate in news but statistics especially cannot be wrong. Pie charts, bar charts,  line charts, all show the same data need to be clarified, simplified, and above all accurate.
All graphs have a different purpose. For example a pie chart that has overwhelming numbers is good to show on a pie chart to portray the emotion of dominance. Bar charts have good comparison schemes and are good for business.
Math is dire in charts. Mean, Median, ratios, percentages all majorly impact graphs.

5.11

Curriculum Changes

The president announced that all incoming students starting in the fall will have to take one math, computer science, and foreign language course.

The president made a public statement that the staff and himself felt that the students would be more educated when they graduated.
